The M1 (and M1A1 and M1A2) always has Chobham armor. Some models
of the M1A1 (I think it's the -A1) add DU plates to enhance the
Chobham armor.
As for the resistance to DU sabot (presumably armor piercing,
fin stabilized, discarding sabot, DU)...I dunno. What caliber
shell? Where was the M1 hit? I suspect the M1 in all models
is capable of surviving a hit from existing 105-125mm cannons
on its frontal turret and frontal body armor.
I await more informed answers myself.
