Depends on what kind of MBT. A 105mm would not have much chance of doing anything useful if fired at the front of a modern MBT, especially not one of the modern Western behemoths. If facing older MBTs, say export T72s or older, a 105mm might be quite sufficent. The Israelis are supposed to have engaged and destroyed Syrian T72s with the 105mm armed Merkavas. Now, if you are in a position of potential with a country that is able to field substantial formations of modern MBTs, trusting only in your medium forces might be a tad unwise, but for 'colonial' operations, the 105 should be quite enough.
