The Israeli Defence Force have been useing a Fletchlette anti-personel tank
shell against Palastinians.
The Shell release approximately 5,000 small flechette darts. The flechettes
are dispersed in a cone-shaped pattern which is 300m long and about 94m
wide.
The weapon has been used 'sparringly' and mainly against 'motar crews'
according to the Israelis but the massive dispersal area means innocent
people are at risk and some have already been hit.
Internally the IDF is in disupte as to the continued use of this weapon.
Some say it is unrelaible and difficlut to restrict to the target area and
will draw further comdemnation from the international community.
The IDF have developed a heavier version of this round, but have not yet
deployed it against Palastinians.
Nice to see such precision weapons in use.
